(Washingto, D.C.) Cuban Americans Denounce Bush's Plan on Cuba
CAAEF - July 11
Washington, D.C.. The measures proposed by President Bush's so-called Commission for Assistance to a Free Cuba represent a cruel expansion of a long-term failed policy towards Cuba.
Mr. Bush’s policy, including his designation of a pro-consul for Cuba, is an affront to the Cuban people's sovereignty and right to self-determination. In simple terms, it is an annexationist policy that cannot be implemented without the destruction of the Cuban nation. The secret annex that accompanies the report approved by the President promises military or covert action that apart from its predictable destructiveness would violate international law.
The Cuban people are fully capable of guiding the Cuban nation by themselves.
The Bush Administration curtailment of family travel and humanitarian assistance to our brothers and sisters on the island continues to be inconsistent with the basic principles of the United States and is tantamount to a violation of elementary human rights.
In the name of our families on the island, in the name of decency and fairness, and in the name of international law, we categorically and vigorously denounce the President's actions and further aggression towards the Cuban people.
We ask the people and Congress of the United States for help in our efforts in favor of family unity and of a saner policy towards Cuba.

TAKE ACTION NOW
|
|
1) Take Action!
|
Our government shouldn't interfere in events in Cuba. Instead, we should let U.S. citizens travel, trade, and interact with the Cuban people. I urge the administration to make a public statement that the United States will not interfere in Cuba's internal political process. I urge the administration to allow U.S. citizens to exercise their right to travel to Cuba and trade with Cuba.
