Contribute to disaster relief in Haiti

  • Contribute to disaster relief in Haiti
    La Alborada - January 13

You can send a text message on your cell phone to contribute a small amount for disaster relief that will be charged to your cell phone account.

    - The Red Cross will send $10 when you dial 90999 and send the text message "Haiti."

    - Musician Wyclef Jean will send $5 to relief projects through his foundation, Yele Haiti, when you dial 501501 and send the text message "Yele."

    - You can also click here to donate directly to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund, or purchase Nyoil Theideal's song here -- he is donating ALL funds raised to Yele.

Larger or direct contributions can be made also to the following organizations:

    - Mercy Corps: https://donate.mercycorps.org/donation.htm?DonorIntent=Haiti+Earthquake

    - Partners in Health: www.pih.org/inforesources/news/Haiti_Earthquake.html

    - Doctors Without Borders: www.doctorswithoutborders.org

A long list of options is on the Huffington Post at Haiti Earthquake Relief: How You Can Help.

  • AARP Foundation Matches Contributions by AARP Members to Haitian Relief
Crisis in Haiti: How You Can Help

To respond to the devastating earthquake in Haiti, AARP Foundation has established a disaster relief fund so that AARP members can quickly and safely contribute to help older earthquake victims in Haiti. AARP will match dollar for dollar up to $500,000 all contributions made to the AARP Foundation Haiti Relief Fund. One hundred percent of your donation goes directly to help people most in need!

  • LAWG Responds to the Massive Earthquake in Haiti
Like us, you are hearing the tale of loss and destruction coming from Haiti and wondering what you can do to help. Here at the LAWG, we will be working to encourage a generous response from the U.S. government to this devastating earthquake, including for long-term reconstruction. But right now, the most important action we can all take is to contribute to one of the many caring organizations providing relief.

Here are some of our partners who participate in the LAWG coalition who are providing relief, along with their websites. Please donate to them or to any other effective organization of your choice supporting relief efforts in Haiti.

Please also see the Jesuit Refugee Service's alert calling for the United States to temporarily halt deportation of Haitians in the United States.

As our friends at Lutheran World Relief write, "Throughout the night and into the morning powerful aftershocks, some as strong as 5.9 magnitude, continued. The initial quake toppled the presidential palace and destroyed the shanty homes where most Haitians live. Their homes destroyed, people are in the streets with nowhere to go."

We all need to do what we can to lend a hand.

    Best,
The LAWG Team / Lisa, Mavis, Jennifer, Paulo, Vanessa and Brian
